Almonit search engine: a preview
Did you know the original plan of Almonit included creating a decentralized search engine for the Dweb? But the amount of existing websites at the time did not justify such a move. Instead we ended up creating a simple directory for the Dweb.
Since then the amount of decentralized websites grew significantly, where the pace really picked up in November and doesn’t seem to slow. A directory of websites will stop to be a fitting solution very soon. It’s time for us to step up.
So, without further ado, here’s a preview of our new decentralized search engine!
Looks cool, right?
Our new search engine is going to be completely decentralized. We do not maintain any server for it. What do we use instead? cutting-edge client side technology combined with p2p network and decentralized tools like the special structure of IPFS.
We plan on using the way the Dweb is built to bring special features to our search engine. Examples? letting the community participate in which content is shown there, or integrating it with blockchain wallets.
Building a decentralized search engine is quite a challenge since much of the existing searching technology relies on the idea of having a server.
That’s why we will begin simple. The first version of the search engine is planned to be released before the end of the year and will include only basic features.
But in the same time we work on adding extra features and optimization in the first quarter of 2020, where at some point we’d like to involve the community in our research.
